By reexamining the fundamentals of how images are described, we have developed a method for compressing images
and data that traditional theory says cannot be compressed.
The initial product compresses lofargrams (acoustic spectrograms) and is currently
in a fleet transition project for the U.S. Navy. The method extrapolates well to
any highly-textured (high-entropy) images such as Synthetic Aperture Radars (SAR).
